    About the class

    What to expect

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines dynamic movement, acrobatics, music and playing together.

It is characterised by flowing evasive movements, kicks, turns and the so-called ginga – the rhythmic basic movement of capoeira.

Unlike many classical combat sports, the focus is not on defeating an opponent. Two capoeiristas meet as playing partners, respond to each other and together develop a moving interplay.

    Benefits

    What does capoeira develop?

Regular training supports, among other things:

    • Coordination and balance
    • Flexibility and body control
    • Strength, stamina and reaction speed
    • A sense of rhythm and musical understanding
    • Concentration and attention
    • Self-confidence and creativity
    • Community and respectful interaction

All movements are taught step by step and appropriately for each age. No prior experience or acrobatic ability is needed to get started.

    In training

    Capoeira in practice

    Training combines different areas:

    • The ginga as the rhythmic basic movement
    • Kicking and evasive movements
    • Turns and first acrobatic elements
    • Partner exercises
    • Coordination and movement games
    • Music, singing and clapping together
    • Playing in the roda

The roda is the circle in which capoeira is experienced together. The group claps and sings while two children or teenagers play with each other in the middle. They watch each other, respond to one another and connect their movements to the rhythm of the music.

The berimbau, a traditional Brazilian instrument, sets the rhythm and the character of the game.

    Attitude

    Together, not against each other

Capoeira thrives on attention, creativity and mutual respect. Movements are not carried out on a training partner with full force. Instead, children and teenagers learn to judge distance and speed and to use their techniques under control.

There are many different ways to take part in training. Some children are particularly taken with the music, others with the movement, the acrobatics or playing together.

This creates an environment in which the perfect result is not the only thing that counts. The courage to try something new is an important step forward too.

    Who it's for

    Capoeira for children and teens

Through capoeira children can live out their natural joy of movement while learning to control their bodies more consciously. The mix of music, movement and shared exercises makes for varied training.

Reserved children in particular get the chance to watch first and then join in at their own pace. They do not have to be louder or faster than anyone else to belong to the group.

Teenagers benefit from a varied full-body workout that combines creativity, fitness and technical challenge. At the same time, capoeira offers room for personal expression and shared experiences.
